Places to Go - The Art Institute (Chicago, IL)

After my father died (sorry for the depressing introduction, but it hasn't even been two weeks yet, so please give me a little leeway), my mom and I tried to keep ourselves as busy as possible. With this goal in mind, I planned a trip to the new, modern wing of the Art Institute, which seemed like the perfect place to visit as my father had never been there (unlike the old wing where my family spent many a weekend). If you haven't had a chance to see it yet, the new wing is truly fantastic, the architecture alone warrants a trip, full of breathtaking vistas of Millennium Park. Admission is pricey ($18 - a long cry from the "suggested donation" of $10 from a few years ago) but the addition of the new wing makes the whole museum quite large. I'm now a little enamored with Gerhard Richter, especially this work. I also highly recommend the Hyperlinks exhibit, which highlights current (and fascinating) intersections between art and technology.

When we arrived I didn't feel like taking pictures, so I don't have pictures of the museum's interior. But on our way out I couldn't resist taking a few shots of the rainy foggy night. The whole mood reminded me of Gotham City, like walking into a cartoon.

If you have a chance, I've been nominated as a creative mom blog, so please vote for me. Here's the link - Top 25 Creative Moms - help me win! And thanks to those of you who already voted!!!

One more thing, if you scroll down you'll notice that on the right hand side I added a mix-tape to the blog. I know the widget is sort of big and tacky, but I thought the loss of aesthetics was worth it for something so cool. Check it out if you have a chance.

  1. Beautiful photos! I've never been to New York even though I live in the DC suburbs, it's on my list of things to try to do this year.
So sorry about the loss of your dad.
Am off to check out more posts here and I just voted for you on the creative mom bloggers circle list!! : )

  2. Thank you so much! I love your blog too, what great ideas!
