Places to Go (Vacation) - Ohiopyle State Park in the Laurel Highlands of Pennsylvania
As part of our spring break trip to the Laurel Highlands, we visited Ohiopyle State Park, which resides about ten minutes from the Nemacolin resort. The park is renowned for its white water rafting, but my kids are still a little too young for that. So instead we decided to check out the waterfalls. Ohiopyle Falls (photographed above) is accessible from an adjacent parking lot, where several viewing platforms of varying heights let us witness the falls from different angles. After checking out Ohiopyle Falls (and dancing in circles on the platform), we drove to Cucumber Falls (pictured below). A short walk from the parking lot lead us to a view of the falls, but as we wanted the "total picture" we decided to climb the short, steep stairs all the way down and observe the falls from the bottom as well. They're pretty impressive, plus the kids loved climbing on the boulders bordering the river.
In warmer weather when water levels decline Ohiopyle also houses a "natural waterslide" that looks so so fun. Click here for info.
